Why is nobody helping the homeless (you) and are you helping self or being awkward?

A question I get asked every day at least once a day is why is nobody helping you.  The answer I give which never appears to be a satisfactory one is normally "they don't help people like me" or "I'm not enough of a victim".

Rather than believe what I'm saying is true and that there really is no genuine help available unless you accept that you are mentally or physically sick, addicted to something terrible and it's that which is stopping you submitting to the perception of needing to work for the rest of your life.  It's easier to project that I don't know how to get a job, or run a business and must have done something wrong, be in too much pain, or be too sick to "fix".

A common thing to see all round Taunton and in most towns and city centres today.

How will we fix poverty and homelessness?

Er maybe we should build some more houses! :/

Literally nobody believes this is true and everyone in a house believes there is a shortage of houses or places to stay if you don't have one.  They all seem to believe in the concept of needing to build new houses all the time and the need to create more delusions to fix the problem of not enough houses or places or roofs over people's heads.  You may ask "why do people do this?"  Well the simple answer is that they have to in order to continue to operate day to day.  The large majority of people in positions of power when it comes to property and new builds have to assume that what they are doing is necessary otherwise they just wouldn't bother.

The guy building the house needs to believe that he's building houses and helping people and society when in actual fact all he's doing is earning money to pay for his own house that isn't even his house!  Now that's just the builder, we haven't touched on the architects, solicitors, surveyors, archaeologists, insurance companies and the list just goes on and on.  All of them would not be able to get out of bed and raise a smile for what they are doing with their lives if they knew it's completely irrelevant and unnecessary and not helping anyone.

I have become so fed up and bored of the questions and projections every day I decided to do what all the helpers suggest while keeping a mental record of everything that has happened in order to create this post and highlight what happens when the "homeless" person doesn't think "homeless" is a sickness that needs fixing.

I touched on this a little bit in the post Why don't you get help?  I discuss what happened to me and what my findings were when trying to get "help" from Taunton Open Door and the Huggert Centre in Cardiff.  Two charities allegedly helping the homeless in two different towns but both of them essentially rinsing government aid and local donations to create jobs for helpers so we can fix this terrible "illness".

Essentially, any homeless charity linked to the government claiming to help the homeless isn't helping much.

I could go on and on for hours, talking about all of them and none of them really help.  Most of them do provide the setting for food and or clothes that have already been bought and donated to be packaged up and resold to vulnerable people as money or a service!

If you want to help people then do it directly based on your own perception and morality in the moment.  Stop outsourcing basic human kindness to a group ideology based on a governed mind (Government).

Every now and then I get visited by the outreach workers.  They work for the government circling most towns checking on the "homeless" giving them a coffee and biscuits and as far as I can tell just making sure that you're still alive and don't have any immediate health or other concerns going on.  They never tend to move me on and always seem to inform me that I'm fine where I am which I never am and I always get moved on by someone even after them and or the police telling me I'm fine to stay there.  Who moves you on?  Government officials, alleged land owners blah blah blah.  Essentially anyone upset with the notion that someone is staying in a nice area under a roof and getting a nice view that the surrounding houses and or business have had to pay millions of pounds for.  Essentially it doesn't matter, if the police get enough complaints, they will eventually come out and move you on.  Does the complainer need to verify who they are or the complaint they are making? No.  Do they have to prove they do indeed own the land or even do indeed work for the government?  No.  Will the police enforce it anyway and move you on?  Yes.  This is my life at the moment.

Interestingly while writing this blog I had a call from one of the outreach workers who is asking me if I want to stay somewhere for a week due to the cold whether.  Essentially when it reaches the minuses SWEP and the government seem to freak out and not want dead bodies on their hands so they try and put you up in emergency accommodation.  The cold doesn't bother me too much so I don't very often want to do this but I do like a comfy bed and it would be nice to be able to relax somewhere without waiting for the next moron to try and move you on.

It was the outreach workers that convinced me (eventually) to collect some universal credit because they say I'm entitled to it so I should be getting it.  Which is a fair point and I suppose in some ways helps them to feel like they are actually helping by getting me some money that isn't relying on me busking on the high street.  I avoided it for a whole year and a half because I have been so angry with the system and the government that I didn't want any help from them at all.  It's hard to keep saying no to people that are trying to help you and bring you coffee and biscuits in the morning.  So I agreed to go to the job centre and start the process.  These days you don't actually need to go to the job centre as the whole thing is done online.  The only reason to go to the job centre is if you are so vulnerable and or sick that you can't even fill your own online form in.  So the "helpers" in the job centre will literally do it for you and with you.  As I say, I'm not your average homeless person and don't really need help filling out online forms so I started the process myself.  If you go to the job centre, you look awake and you can hold a conversation at a certain level that's what they will tell you to do anyway.  Go away and do it yourself online.  By the way you can't bring that hot drink in here because of security.  You may be dangerous and you may tip it over someone, however if you go to the public library to fill out the online form you'll be allowed to take it in there and will no longer be deemed dangerous!

When someone starts to wake up to the fact that they shouldn't have to pay to exist in the world we will just give them universal credit.

Which means they still pay to exist but with the money we give them!

The first problem I ran into when trying to get the aid or help that I'm allegedly entitled to was that I didn't have an address.  Interesting that this whole process is supposed to help me as a "homeless" person and yet without an address that's tied to a house I can't move on when filling out the online form.  So I walked back down to the job centre again and asked if I could use their address and they said yes I could.  They open the post, which I'm pretty sure is illegal but they don't seem to care when I mention that to them.

Using there address allowed me to move onto the next stage and the next hurdle I faced was needing to have a bank account.  You can only complete the online form and move onto the next stage if you have a bank account for the money to be paid into.  What do you need to get a bank account?  An address which is tied to a house!  Are you noticing a pattern emerging here.

It's normally around this point that I just give up and can't be assed to play their games and just think sod them all.  This time I decided to persevere, I think mainly just out of boredom to be honest.  A few months back (before it got stolen in London) I had a driving license with an address on it (on old business one) that allowed me to get a Santander Bank Account.  I hadn't used the account which is another long annoying story about banks which I won't digress onto however at this point I thought I would try and use that account and sort code.  The card had been stolen with my driving license and birth certificate which was in with all my stuff.  So I went to Santander to get my account details.  This in itself was another ridiculous process and is potentially another whole blog post on how banks use absurd measures to validate you for security which means absolutely nothing and really just continues to adopt the mainstream philosophy of "do everything to make sure this person has a house, a mobile phone and we know where they are!"

So I get my bank account details and I'm able to move onto the next part of the online form and hopefully get some universal credit to help me in my allegedly desperate vulnerable situation.  Now I can't get any money paid into my account unless I can verify who I am by uploading the required documents to the online portal or taking them into the job centre to verify who I am.  I obviously can't do that and continue to inform the "online helper admin assistants" that there is no point booking an appointment for me to show my various forms of ID because I don't have any.  They just continue to ignore me, arrange other appointments after I missed the previous one and threaten to close the claim down at every chance they get.  Eventually they actually read and acknowledge what I'm saying and ask if I can come in with a local person or a family member who can verify who I am!!  You see how ridiculous this gets and it went on for over a month.  As far as they are concerned I have no money, no where to live and no ID.  So potentially very vulnerable.  They have no idea of my ability to survive in this situation, no idea that I can busk etc etc.  So what exactly are these people doing to "help"?  The short answer is nothing!  They are just doing what they think they need to do in order to get paid every month.

After discussing this with the outreach workers they tell me that they are able to get me a birth certificate.  I didn't really have to answer many questions and they were able to order it online for me and it only cost them £10 I think!  This irrelevant bit of paper based on me answering questions that anyone could have answered if they knew me or my parents in any way now qualifies as proof of who I am and when taking it to the job centre meeting I was deemed acceptable to receive a payment!  The problems I face every day with doing what they believe I should do in order to get well, get a job and be a functional member of society are quite frankly borderline a joke.  It literally just goes on and on and I could write about the absurdity of it all, the organisations involved and analyse why they are doing what they are doing and what is the real agenda here.  At this point I'm hoping that I don't have to because it's quite obvious to anyone reading this that the whole thing is setup to do one of the following:

  • Funnel you into a drugs prison to help you with your addiction where we get paid thousands of pounds a week to look after you.
  • Deem your mental health bad enough to put you in assisted living or something similar where we get thousands of pounds a week to look after you.
  • Get you operating and living your life from a fixed abode of some kind.  We can help you with money for this but none of the sensible or good landlords will accept payment by social credit so you'll likely end up in a shit hole owned by someone dodgy enough to accept social credit for payment.  They are also hoping at some point to get thousands for housing people like you and more vulnerable.
  • If your not making it easy for any of the above to happen then you just have to get yourself back to work and pay for your own place to live ASAP because you only have yourself to blame.

This is essentially the way it works and anyone who works within this area or system with any sense of morality knows it and knows there's very little they can actually do to help someone like me.  Someone that looks at the world, the way it operates and the jobs available that might make you feel good and feel like you are helping and says "there is nothing here!"
