I recently visited The Perkin in Taunton and asked a simple question which was "What oil do you use to cook with." They told me they are not legally allowed to tell me the answer to that and I think the opposite is true. They legally have to tell me if they know or can find out the answer.
Now I shouldn't just pick on Weatherspoons as McDonalds across the road told me exactly the same thing. In fact the staff member completely ignored me and wouldn't even let me discuss it with a manager as I mention in the video below.
Now we shouldn't just pick on the brand names here. Is this McDonald's or Weatherspoon's fault? The answer is no, not in my opinion. It's the fault of the franchisee or the member of staff that have been employed and trained by the franchisee.
Here is the letter I've written to Tim and John who are the CEO and Chairman so hopefully I'll get a reply and some kind of confirmation on something. I won't hold my breath though. They seem like quite sensible chaps whenever I've read their magazine and I'm hoping I get a sensible answer but they likely get a ridiculous amount of emails every day and it's not really the best way to communicate this sort of message anyway.
Hi Tim and John.
I hope this email is able to reach you. I've spent a lot of time visiting different Weatherspoon's in Cardiff and enjoyed the section where people wrote in and Tim replied to their letters but I couldn't find that section in the latest download on the website. However I did notice a lot about free speech so I'm hoping you will appreciate this email.
I also came to learn that he seemed quite sensible and I always enjoyed his replies, especially about the no dog policy. :)
I've had very strange dealings with the Weatherspoon's in Taunton Called The Perkin. I'm homeless so I tend to get picked on a lot by most businesses as they project all over me but Weatherspoon's have in the past been very good to me however it doesn't seem to be the case in Taunton.
Rather than give you a list of how I believe they have discriminated against me in the past (which I can do if you want a follow up) I will just tell you my latest bug bare which is with me personally not wanting to put Rapeseed Oil into my body. I've come to learn that it's not very good for me and have also learned that all the restaurants use it by the bucket load in their food because it's the cheapest. When I went into the Perkin in Taunton to ask what oil they cook with they refused to tell me and said they aren't legally allowed to tell me which I think is complete rubbish. The manager just kept pointing me to the allergy pamphlet to which I politely responded that I don't need a pamphlet designed of the back of medically indoctrinated professionals to tell me what does or doesn't feel good in my body.
So my question to you both is whether this is a Weatherspoon's decision or whether the manager and his staff are just being unnecessarily awkward again and "picking" on me because they know who I am and they think I'm stupid?
