My first pub experience in Cardiff

After being in Cardiff about a week and finding it pretty boring and uneventful I eventually managed to earn a bit of money busking while also getting a nice sweet (edible) from a lovely lady.  It kept me going all day and I was in great spirits so I decided to go to the Owain Glyndwr in the center of Cardiff for their karaoke night.

Now I generally experience a lot of strange goings on when I sing at karaoke's.  I think I suffer a lot of projection being a homeless busker, so when you get up and sing and frankly you're better than most of them there, especially the organiser it tends to cause a stir and you get a lot of gaslighting and people just generally picking on you for no reason.  You could say it's jealousy or you could say it's something deeper which keeps the brainwashing around licensed music and singing under copyright alive.  This time the karaoke guys actually seemed ok though.  You had to register your songs with an app but they did it on their system for me which didn't happen at the last pub I went in to and tried to do the same in Taunton.  Anyway, I had a good sing song after partnering up with another guy at the pub and walked around helping myself to leftover drinks or spirits just to fit in really.  I don't really enjoy alcohol anymore, it does nothing for me and most of the drinks just give me heartburn because of the gas but spirits and flat coke is generally ok.

A good sing song is fun but how much unlicensed fun are we allowed to have.....

What does registering your songs on an app actually do?  These are the kind of questions I ask myself now and the conclusion I come to is that it allows control over what songs are sung and when.

The control the music industry likes to engender in pubs is next level control but it's a huge subject and possibly another blog post for another time....back to slagging off this pub for kicking me out for no reason.

After a while I realised that they were selling coffee at the bar which isn't a usual situation.  The bouncers outside told me so, after appearing to be friendly to me.  So I went to the bar and asked for a coffee.  As always I did my I'm homeless routine and tried to get some money off or even get a free coffee which didn't work and the bargirl looked at me with disgust to be honest.  So I said that's fine, I'll pay £2.80 for a coffee as it's the drink I like, I'm having a good time and it's likely cheaper than any other drink anyway.  It's also good to see a pub serving coffee, normally they turn their machines off even though they likely make more profit out of coffee than they do alcohol.  The response was another look of disgust while she stood their and waited for me to get my money out.

So I very politely and calmly said (in order to make a point), are you not going to go and make the drink which is common practice in a pub while I sort the money out.  I then highlighted how the guy next to me was getting his drinks poured before paying.  However she had made a judgment or projection that I couldn't pay or wasn't going to and just stood there.  Her response was a high level of anger and aggression while accusing me of being rude and refusing to serve me!  So I tried to get served by another guy at the bar who seemed to be just ignoring me after speaking with her.  Then I saw her speaking to who I imagined was the landlord or manager and looking very victimised and vulnerable by the whole event.

Eventually the manger came over and spoke to me and asked me to leave, to which I responded "why is that?".  He said I was rude to one of his staff and I replied "well what did I say that was rude?"  He gave me no answer and said "I'll have to get security", to which I responded "but what for?"  Security were obviously delighted to have something to do and with a guy that looks like he might be able to handle himself so they were straight over, grabbing my arm and trying to usher me out.  I kept asking "do you know what you are kicking me out for?".  The best answer I got was "being aggressive".  To which I responded "well actually, I'm speaking in a calm voice and you are grabbing me and being aggressive towards me".  I said "ok fine I'll leave but I just need to get my stuff".  This obviously wasn't the dramatic scene they were hoping for so they created it and said no you need to leave and 3 of them manhandled me out the pub and wouldn't let me get my stuff!!

A civilian outside (who I had spoken to earlier that night) had to go back in and get my stuff for me while they guarded the door and wouldn't let me back in.  He rightly pointed out, you don't even seem drunk and when I told him what had happened and why he seemed quite shocked.  The bouncers heard the whole thing to and they didn't care, they justified their existence which is essentially following orders without any self morality whatsoever.  Order followers, blaming the government and anyone else they can for the problems in the world while they blindly follow orders without question.  Do you know what I think the biggest form of evil in this world is....acting without using your own morality.

You can't even blame the ridiculous bar girl, the order follower bored men justify her need for attention by acting that way in response to her.

So rant over and the library is shutting so time to go.  I moved on quickly and continued to enjoy my night as always.  Trying to never let things like that get me down, otherwise they really have won.  Now they have a blog post written about their appalling behavior, so let's hope for their sake I don't get too popular!
