Tesco Extra for Breakfast

Published on 4 August 2023 at 13:07

After finding myself a nice quiet secluded place to sleep where I don't get bothered by all the annoying humans I decided to explore the local area a bit this morning.  I'll keep the location a secret as I want to try and keep it that way.  After a bit of exploring I realised that Tesco Extra wasn't too far a walk away so I thought I would pop in for some coffee and snacks which was quite overwhelming to be honest.  I don't think I've been in a store like that for quite a while now, possibly even a few years.

The first thing I noticed was that wherever you walked there seemed to be loads of staff rushing about furiously bleeping items.  I wondered what the hell they were doing so I asked one of them and they said they are doing other peoples shopping which was the online orders!  It seems a bit crazy to me, there were more staff than customers in the store.  The good news is there is always a helper to ask where things are as it's impossible to find anything in those stores because the layout is terrible and they change it all the time.  I imagined that the online orders would be packaged up in the warehouse or overnight or something but not during opening times in the actual store.  I suppose that's why they need to charge so much for things in the café etc because they have to pay for all the helpers.

I chose this image for a reason!  Read below to find out why...

One thing that Tesco's, Morrisons and all the supermarkets do is provide the public with the opportunity to feel better about the wealth they've accumulated mostly doing pointless jobs that don't help anyone by donating some food to help those in need or the homeless.  What these order follower workers don't really understand (it's not their fault they think they are helping and they don't ever question the depth of deception that goes on) is that a lot of the food gets donated to charities and organisations that charge again for the food.  I myself and homeless but I can't just take something from the basket that has already been paid for......oh no.

What I have to do as person considered homeless is to register for a food bank service with a charity, fill out a load of forms, get a phone and engage in a system that indicates the only reason I am homeless is because I'm sick and I should be accepting help for some kind of crack addiction or metal health disorder.  Once you have done that you then qualify for some food vouchers which allow you to by the food re-packaged up at a discounted or cheap rate.  Food that's already been bought and paid for once!!!

I personally think this is disgusting and is one of the reasons among many why I have started this blog.  Anyway after wasting an hour getting overwhelmed and confused by a ridiculous amount of products which all seem to be mainly the same thing packaged in different ways I decided to go for the simple meal deal which is the same price everywhere and all across the country!  Interesting over the last few days Weatherspoons and some of the shop retailers have been moaning about a 7% price rise.  A Weatherspoons in Victoria put their unlimited coffee up from .99p to £1.02 which I think is utterly ridiculous.  They say it's not them it's the Government, which could be true but a meal deal in Tesco's is still £3.40 even in Central London!!

To be fair it is still the cheapest coffee in town but it's annoying to put a coffee up from .99p to £1.02 don't you think, kinda pointless if you ask me.

I generally tend to choose the meal deal from Tesco's because it comes with a coffee they try to charge £2.85 which makes it a good deal as you essentially get a free coffee.  The hilarious thing today was that it's a Costa Coffee from a machine and about 50 yards away there is a Costa Coffee shop inside the supermarket.  I asked the staff stood around inside Costa Coffee with no customers if I could get my coffee as part of the meal deal their and they said no because they aren't anything to do with Tesco's.  I said but you're in the store and the machine is a costa machine and basically doing the same thing just over their.  They looked at me like I was the mad one so I just laughed and walked away.  I imagine if I had tried to sit at one of their tables to eat my meal deal and drink my coffee they would have told me to move on also, even though it was a Costa Coffee bought inside Tesco's which is essentially what they are too!!  These are the kind of ridiculous things that I notice in the world now and nobody seems to care.

£3.40 everywhere you go, even central London and they get paid 20% more, what are they all moaning about!!!

When I went to purchase the meal deal the guy behind the counter completely projected that I was an idiot that had done something wrong.  He assumed the cinnamon bun I had chosen wasn't a designated snack that was part of the meal deal and said he needed a barcode for that and then said he needed a receipt for the coffee.  To which I replied "I've used a regular cup, showing it's a regular hot drink that comes with a meal deal so what's the problem and said there was no barcode to be had with the cinnamon bun."  He wanted to tell me I was being rude, I could tell but I said it in a calm voice and I was actually right so he had nowhere to go!  Apart from walking me right across the other side of the store, creating a big queue so I could show him where I got it and he could shame me for what I had done wrong.  Turns out I had done nothing wrong and he ended up looking like the idiot when we got there.

After getting back to the counter to pay for my meal deal I asked the guy behind me if I could use his Clubcard so he could get some points and I could get .50p off and he agreed.  Tesco's don't really like this, they frown upon it but I don't think there is a hell of a lot they can do about it.  Anyway the guy offered to buy my meal deal for me and I accepted which felt great.  A person helping the homeless in the moment without projection is always a nice feeling and it cheered me up.  The judgmental staff helpers, order followers that chuck things in a charity basket and government officials working for some of the charities could learn a thing or two from that guy.

After all that drama and spending an hour doing so I decided to have a seat outside on the bench, drink my coffee and eat my meal deal.  I got chatting to a lovely lady who had done her own shopping and spent £20 on a taxi, to not go that far, in order to get too and from her house.  It occurred to me that was quite a lot so I suggested the online shopping option but she said she struggles with anything online which is understandable when you are in a certain age category.  When the taxi pulled up the lady didn't even get out to help her put the bags into the boot so I got up to help her and she then got out of the cab to help!  I ended up getting the pound from her trolley which was another example of help in the moment based on connection and vibration.

I then had an idea for a way to make some money!

Spending the last year homeless and not wanting to be part of the system as most jobs are completely irrelevant and pointless and more importantly don't actually help anyone I've been struggling to find a way of earning some decent money and actually helping people.  It occurred to me that I could offer a daily service to people such as the lady above where I spend a day at their house doing chores that might not be so easy to them.  For example online shopping, changing a light bulb, gardening, DIY, TV stuff etc etc.  I'm pretty good at everything I put my mind on so I think it could end up being quite useful and helpful.  I don't really want to register it as a business and be part of the ridiculous system so I could just say there is a suggested donation.  Maybe feed me all day and pay for my travel and anything extra is on a donation basis.  I could suggest a figure that would keep me interested and coming back depending on the food and travel money provided.  This way it's not an actual business and it's just an exchange of recourse in the moment based on two people helping each other.
